Both Alexander Albrecht and Štefan Németh-Šamorínsky studied with Béla Bartók and are among the most significant figures in 20th-century Slovak music. Albrecht's Piano Quintet, composed in 1913, combines subtle lyricism with an almost symphonic monumentality.
